UK National Grid pension fund to offload in-house asset manager

first_imgThe National Grid UK Pension Scheme is to sell its in-house asset manager in changes to its investment and governance model. The £17bn (€23.4bn) pension fund for the UK’s electricity network management company manages around 75% of its investments through Aerion Fund Management, wholly owned by the pension scheme and managing only its assets. However, after the scheme reviewed its investment and governance models with the aid of consultants Redington, the trustees decided to offload the asset management business.Aerion’s sale, preceded by the exit of chief executive Paul Sharman in March, is likely to see all of its remaining staff move with the asset manager, according to chair of trustees Nigel Stapleton. Stapleton said the decision to sell the asset manager was not about costs or Aerion’s performance as an in-house manager.“The trustees must focus on how they can do their own job most effectively,” he told IPE.“Aerion is a very strong team, but the scheme is maturing, and, as you mature, you must become more risk averse.“It is not cost or the team, but, eight years on from when we last looked at this, the scheme’s profile has changed and matured, with asset and liability management becoming more complex. We need more specialist skills.”The pension fund will now create a small and specialist “executive team” to support the trustees with asset manager monitoring, investment strategy and liability management. The team will report directly to the trustees, focusing on the scheme’s needs on a full-time basis.Fenchurch Advisory, an asset manager buy-and-sell specialist, will assist with Aerion’s sale.last_img read more

Make Room, Software – Mobile Content is Eating the World

Role of Mobile App Analytics In-App Engagement Tags:#content on mobile#mobile apps Related Posts Follow the Puck It may seem obvious that mobile-driven content is becoming the primary mainstream preference of content consumption, but the pace and implications of such a shift are often overlooked. Despite the absurd amount of time Generation Z spends on their phones or how the youth is redefining content consumption with mobile social media, many content platforms and companies still don’t take a mobile-first approach. “Like it or not, today’s content companies must come to terms with the fact that mobile-first thinking isn’t just the way of the future—it’s essential for any brand that wants to become or remain successful in the present,” details JAKK Media Co-Founder, Kenny Kline. Kline’s perception of a future landscape dominated by mobile consumption reflects what statistics tell us about content consumption trends. Up to 85 percent of Americans use mobile devices to consume content at least sometimes, and that number is amplified with younger generations like Millennials and Generation Z. So you won’t have your audience keep up with your content without mobile tech.Consuming news, social media, and messaging on mobile devices is simply more convenient. Push notifications and personalized news feeds keep people more connected (and distracted) than ever before, and the early stages of integrating more advanced marketing, e-commerce, and specialized content into the mobile ecosystem are rapidly snowballing. The Integration of Social Media, E-Commerce, and Mobile Devices Initiatives like the rumored Instagram Shop are indicative of the dynamic transition of e-commerce into a predominantly mobile medium. The success and influence of social media — which is consumed vastly more on mobile devices — on e-commerce is evident. Roughly 87 percent of e-commerce shoppers believe that social media helps them make shopping decisions, and 40 percent of merchants use social media for sales. With Instagram consisting of more than 1 billion active monthly users, there really is no better or more popular medium to promote content or drive sales. China has already set the standard in the integration of e-commerce and social media. Currently in China, nearly 55 percent of social app users cited purchasing goods directly through a social application. That trend is likely to rapidly gain traction in the U.S. too, where a 55 percent increase in mobile e-commerce sales in 2018 fueled North American e-commerce growth to over $500 billion — a 16 percent increase over the previous year. “It’s not enough to simply provide readers with the information they’re looking for,” cites Kline. “Content brands that want to remain successful as the digital landscape evolves must also provide this information in a consistently engaging and unique way if they want people to keep paying attention to their brand.”How do brands stay relevant in an evolving age of social media and content delivery? Cater to young people. E-Commerce brands are competing with entertainment for the attention of younger mobile users, particularly Generation Z, who is projected to account for 40 percent of the consumer population by 2020. Similarly, 85 percent of Gen Z learns about new products from social media. Combine younger preferences for mobile social media and e-commerce with the meteoric rise of PWAs and it seems inevitable that brands will need to take a mobile-first approach to their content and business strategy if they wish to remain relevant.  PWAs, which stands for ‘progressive web apps,’ are hybrid websites and mobile applications that blur the line between a website and mobile apps. They are ideal for e-commerce integration with social media and are rapidly emerging as a darling of marketing initiatives for their faster load times and much more fluid designs.PWAs offload the work to the device itself rather than a web server, and their ability to still send push notifications also leads into one of the cardinal drivers of increasing mobile content consumption — niche and personalized content.  Personalized and Niche Content Suites A Mobile Era Push notifications can become overwhelming if you don’t temper the number of applications and news sites you receive them from. That being said, the often subtle influence of push notifications is overlooked — they are completely shifting how content is consumed. Rather than exploring various sources for the information that you want, it is filtered and sent directly to your phone. People are bombarded with tailored content throughout the day from multiple sources. That content comes in all forms too, from short-form videos to editorial pieces of major publications. Leveraging push notifications effectively is also a ripe opportunity for smaller brands and niche content audiences. “Niche audiences are inherently passionate about their interests, so they won’t be intrigued by or loyal to brands that offer only superficial, basic content on the topic,” Kline continues. From the brand and marketing perspective, push notifications are the optimal way to distribute content to users in an effective way. Personalized content open rates can increase by 4X using push notifications, indicating that brands lacking in mobile content delivery will inevitably fall behind mobile-first brands.Personalization of new feeds.Personalization of news feeds, linked data accounts, faster delivery, and more familiar designs all make the mobile experience much more appealing to the everyday user. People want convenience, and audiences seeking niche content prefer it directly delivered to the device that’s in their pocket for the entire day. The flexibility of mobile devices will continue to expedite the transition towards an increasingly mobile-driven content paradigm. Companies that adjust appropriately will be well-suited for the new content archetype while those who let mobile content take a back seat will be left behind. last_img read more

Lobbying on in Odisha’s Biju Janata Dal for bypolls to three Rajya Sabha Seats

first_imgWith the Election Commission announcing July 5 as the date for conducting bypolls to three Rajya Sabha Seats in Odisha, hectic lobbying was under way in the ruling Biju Janata Dal, headed by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, sources in the Party said. Among the leaders vying for a Rajya Sabha ticket were: Former Bhubaneswar MP Prasanna Patsani, former Berhampur MLA Ramesh Chandra Chyau Patnaik, former bureaucrat Amar Patnaik and former Balasore MP Rabinda Jena, who lost the just-concluded polls. Senior BJD leader Prafulla Ghadai, who was expelled in 2014 and re-inducted in the run-up to the polls, was also one of the hopefuls, the sources said. Mr. Patsani, the former parliamentarian from Bhubaneswar, said, “I was assured a Rajya Sabha Berth after being denied a ticket to contest the Lok Sabha elections. I have full faith in the Chief Minister. He will make me a candidate for the Rajya Sabha polls.” Echoing similar sentiments, former legislator Chyau Patnaik also said he has been promised a Rajya Sabha Berth by the BJD president. The Seats fell vacant after the sitting BJD MPs resigned from their membership in the wake of their election to the Lok Sabha and the State Assembly. “Altogether, four Upper House Seats in the State have fallen vacant, following the resignation of MPs Achyuta Samanta, Soumya Ranjan Patnaik, P.K. Deb and Anubhav Mohanty, but the EC issued notices for three,” an official at the Assembly secretariat said. There will be no election in fourth Seat, vacated by Mr. Mohanty, as its tenure was about to end in a year, he added. While Mr. Samanta and Mr.Mohanty have been elected to Lok Sabha from Kandhamal and Kendrapara parliamentary seats respectively, Mr. Patnaik and Mr. Deb won the Assembly polls from Khandapada and Aul constituencies. All three vacant Seats are likely to be retained by the BJD, keeping in view the number of Seats the regional party has bagged in the recently held Assembly elections. The Naveen Patnaik-led Party has 111 MLAs in the 147-member House, while the BJP has 23 legislators, the Congress nine and the CPI(M) and an Independent one each. Two Assembly Seats – Patkura and Bijepur – remained vacant where polling will be held later. As one candidate in the Rajya Sabha bypoll would require the support of 38 MLAs to win, the BJD has adequate strength to secure all three Seats, the Party sources added.last_img read more

In football you always have to be respectful and talk on the pitch. We’re in a very good position — last 16 of the Champions League, semi-final of the Carabao Cup and third in the Premier League table.”I remember when we arrived it always was about how? How do we reduce the gap to the top? How can we be competitive in big games? How can we be consistent? How? How? How? After four-and-a-half years I think we’re in a very good position. But now the last step is the most difficult step. It looks so close but sometimes it’s not so close. That is why it’s tough to keep going.”In our first press conference after the World Cup I told you this is going to be one of the most difficult seasons for us. When many things were negative, when all the circumstances were not the best to start with… But we fought a lot and we took a massive challenge, fighting all together, and we’re doing a fantastic job.” last_img read more
