The  disabled soldiers were protesting calling for their demands over the pension scheme to be addressed and the Government had assured that their demands will be met from next February. The police used tear gas to disperse a protest by disabled soldiers near the Presidential Secretariat today. However as the protest continued today the police sought a court order to stop the protest. The court refused to issue the order and told the police to use their powers to stop the protest if the protest disrupts normal activities in the area. The protest was later called off after the Government reassured that their demands will be met. (Colombo Gazette)
